On April 27th 12 porthcawl runners took to the streets of London to run the London Marathon. Along with them came a crowd of support from fellow Porthcawl runners ready to cheer them on.
It was a foggy start to the day but as the sun rose it soon burnt off leaving clear blue skies ready for the 9.30am start.
Porthcawl had 3 of their female members on the championship start: Tracy, Zoe and Gaby. With 2 members securing good for age places: Sally and Ross.
Thousands of supporters lined the streets with entertainment at various points along the course making it a festival of running. As the day went on the heat rose making it a tough day for the runners but they powered through. The support from Porthcawl runners along the course was incredible and made the whole experience all the more enjoyable.
There were PBs on the day despite the tough conditions from Ross 2.49.04 (5minutes), Gaby 3.01.30 (5minutes), Sally 3.19.53 (5 minutes) and Paul 5.46.57 (17minutes). Amongst the team were also 2 first timers, Amanda and Carwyn.
Many of the team were also running for charities close to their hearts and raised an incredible amount of money. Chris ran for Tommys, Carwyn for Dementia UK, Amanda for Parkinson’s, Josh for MACS, Rupert for Aneurin Bevan Health Charity and Wilfy for Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital.
Amanda also became a Guinness world record holder with the fastest time for a female with bilateral total knee replacements in a time of 5.01.03.
Overall it was a successful day for Porthcawl Runners and support from the club was magnificent. A huge shout out to everyone who came to watch and cheer us all on!
