3 Women With Altitude

In October three of our Porthcawl Runners, Tracey Breheny, Helen Thomas and Sylke King, undertook the trip of a lifetime trekking to Everest Base Camp!.  The trip itself was fully self funded with all proceeds raised going to ‘2 Wish’, a charity founded in Wales and which provides bereavement support to families who suddenly experience the death of a child or young person.

Our ladies set themselves a target of raising £4,500 between them which they smashed by raising over £7,000!. None of this would have been possible without the amazing support of Porthcawl Runners who took part in a charity ‘virtual climb’ to Everest during April (receiving a bespoke designed running buff by the talented Louise Mordue),  bought cakes and crafts (made by some of our more creative members) in May and enjoyed a brilliant charity fundraiser at the Hi Tide, Porthcawl  in September with live music, again provided by our incredible running community.

The trek itself involved just under 150 kilometres of climbing over 10 days which saw the group reaching an altitude of 5,364k.  Each day was different, navigating various terrains, beautiful Nepalese villages and high suspension bridges, including the world famous Hilary Bridge.  The unspoilt scenery of the Himalayas was magical as the group trekked through the highest mountain range in the world.

Tracey, Helen & Sylke are now firmly back at sea level and enjoying some of the creature comforts of home, including hot showers again!  They would like to thank Porthcawl Runners from the bottom of their hearts for all the support and can confirm that the whole trip raised an astonishing £51,000 for the charity.
